Volleyball Falls to Eastern Illinois

CHARLESTON, Ill. – The DePaul volleyball team saw its two match win streak come to a close Wednesday evening, falling to Eastern Illinois 3-1 (30-27, 28-30, 27-30, 27-30) at the Lantz Arena. The Blue Demons fall to 3-7, while Eastern improves to 4-4 on the season
The Blue Demon offense came out swinging, registering a .300 attack percentage in game one. Junior outside hitter Ellen Hayes led the offensive charge, registering a 1.000 (3-0-3) attack percentage while senior outside hitter Mandy Moorberg and freshman middle blocker Cristina Correa added 5 kills each. The lead changed hands four times in game one, but Hayes' kill allowed the Blue Demons to take a 22-21 lead and eventually win game one, 30-27.
The Panthers led by as many as seven twice in game two. But DePaul fought back and was able to tie the game at 24 and took the lead on a Correa kill. The Blue Demon offense was plagued by errors however, allowing the Panthers to squeak out game two 30-28.
The Blue Demons jumped out to an 19-13 lead in game three, but timely errors allowed the Panthers to tie the game at 20. Eastern won game three, 30-27.
DePaul was unable to get its offense going in game four, dropping the game 30-27.
Hayes led the Blue Demons, registering no errors on 12 swings for a .583 attack percentage, 17 digs and three block assists. Freshman setter Mandi Caputo dished out 50 assists while hitting .383 and recording 11 digs.
