Blue Demons Fall on the Road at Pittsburgh

INDIANOLA, Pa. – In looking at the scoresheet on Friday night, the DePaul men’s soccer team outshot Pittsburgh, 11-4, and took 11 corner kicks to just two for the Panthers. However, a goal by the home team just before halftime was the only goal of the match as DePaul lost, 1-0, in the first game of the BIG EAST weekend road trip.
With just four shots in the match – including three in the first half – the Panthers used one of their two corner kicks on the evening to set up the lone goal. Tyler Bastianelli took the corner kick and fed it to Thomas DeCato. DeCato lined up a shot from 25 yards and scored at 44:12 to give Pittsburgh (2-4-1, 1-2-0 BIG EAST) the lead before intermission.
The Blue Demons were active in the second half, taking seven shot to one for the Panthers. In addition, DePaul (2-3-2, 0-2-1 BIG EAST) attempted all 11 corner kicks in the second period. Pittsburgh’s Justin Lowery was there throughout the evening as he finished the match with five saves.
Brian Visser played the entire 90 minutes for the Blue Demons totaling three saves along with the one goal.
DePaul continues the weekend with a Sunday afternoon match at West Virginia. Kickoff in Morgantown is set for 3 p.m. EST with the match slated as the second game of a West Virginia soccer doubleheader.
