MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – For the second time in as many games, the DePaul men's soccer team outshot their opponent, but came up on the short end of the scoreboard. The West Virginia Mountaineers tallied a 2-0 decision on Sunday afternoon despite 13 shots for the Blue Demons compared to 10 for the home team.
West Virginia (5-4-0, 2-2-0 BIG EAST) scored a goal in each half with the first coming in the 15th minute. Jarrod Smith founding Devon McTavish through the DePaul defense and McTavish scored past Blue Demon keeper Brian Visser for his first goal of the season.
The match remained even with DePaul forcing West Virginia goalie Nick Noble to make six saves in the match. At the other end, Visser finished with just one save in 90 minutes.
The Mountaineers added an insurance goal late in the match as DePaul (2-4-2, 0-3-1 BIG EAST) was pressing forward to tie the match. Zak Boggs scored his first goal of the season off an assist from Dan Stratford at 87:30.
DePaul steps out of conference action for a Wednesday evening match at Loyola. Kickoff in Rogers Park is set for 7 p.m. The Blue Demons host Syracuse next Saturday at Wish Field in a BIG EAST match slated for a 1 p.m. start.
