Volleyball Stumbles Against Bradley

Bradley 3, DePaul 2 Sophomore outside hitter Aly Zavitz served the Blue Demons to victory in game one. The sophomore served for nine straight points and recorded three service aces to put DePaul up 13-4. The Blue Demons never looked back and got an offensive push from senior outside hitter Mandy Moorberg, who recorded five kills in the game. DePaul won the first game 30-27. Bradley bounced back in game two, jumping out to a 6-1 lead, however DePaul rallied to pull within one, at 6-7. The two teams exchanged the lead six times before senior Lindsay Stalzer knocked down a kill to give Bradley their final advantage of the game. Bradley won game two 31-29. Stalzer found the holes in the Blue Demon defense, recording 14 kills in game three. The Braves won the game 30-26. Hayes answered Bradley's offense in game four, recording six kills and a perfect attack percentage. Up 28-27, Bradley committed an attack and service error to give the Blue Demons a 29-28 advantage. Each team had a chance to win game four, but it was DePaul who came out on top; taking advantage of back-to-back Brave attack errors to win game four 34-32. The Blue Demons jumped out to a 9-4 lead in final game; but the Braves chipped away at the lead and the DePaul momentum to tie the game at 10. Bradley got behind Stalzer, who recorded two kills in the final three points of the match to give the Braves a 15-12 victory. Stalzer led all players with 36 kills, and teammate Kelly Niemeyer contributed 16 of Bradley's 78 total kills. Freshman setter Mandi Caputo dished out 68 assists and helped five DePaul players to finish with double-digit kill totals. Moorberg led the Blue Demons with 19 kills while Hayes and Zavitz added 17 apiece, Morgan Ingersoll knocked down 13 and Correa rounded out the attack with 10. Defensively, the Blue Demons recorded double-digit blocks for the first time this season. Correa lead all players with nine total blocks (seven assists and two solo), while Ingersoll, Hayes, Zavitz, and Caputo each contributed to the Blue Demons 13 total blocks.
