Blue Demons Top Western Illinois

PEORIA, Ill. - DePaul bounced back in the second match in just under 24 hours with a 1-0 win over Western Illinois at the Holiday Inn City Centre Classic on Saturday evening. Eric Hermosillo scored his first collegiate goal in the second half to lead the Blue Demons.
Following a scoreless first half that saw Western Illinois (0-2) outshoot the Blue Demons, 11-4, Hermosillo took a pass from Patrick Ferrell and scored the game-winner at 66:02. The freshman beat Western Illinois keeper Chris Frenz from eight yards out.
Freshman goalkeeper Brian Visser earned the shutout in just his second career collegiate match with a pair of saves in the 90 minutes while facing 15 Leatherneck attempts. The Blue Demons took three other shots on goal, including a pair by Adam Hermsen.
John Partyka and Visser were named to the Holiday Inn City Centre Classic All-Tournament team.
DePaul (1-1) opens the home schedule next weekend when St. Francis (Pa.) and Drake come to Chicago. Friday's match features St. Francis in a 3 p.m. game followed by a 1 p.m. match on Sunday with the Bulldogs.
Butler won the tournament by defeating Bradley on Saturday night. The Blue Demons finished third with the 1-1 record.
