Junior College Standout Matija Poscic Signs National Letter-of-Intent to Play Basketball at DePaul.
“Based on our upper class losses that we will incur after this season, we felt we needed established front court players who could play right away and one of them had to be a junior college player.” DePaul head coach Jerry Wainwright said. “We are very excited that Matija Poscic has decided to join our program. He’s 6-9, very mobile, strong and an active big man. Matija has European skills but plays the game with an American temperament as he is a very physical player. Matija will be able to step right in because of his age and experience. We expect Matija to have an immediate impact for us.”

Poscic joins DePaul’s 2006-07 recruiting class of Nayal “Mac” Koshwal, a 6-9, 235-pound forward from Chicago’s Boys to Men Academy, Darquavis Tucker a 6-5, 205-pound guard from Saginaw, Michigan’s Arthur Hill High School and Michael Bizoukas a 6-1, 170-pound guard from Munster High School in Munster, Indiana.
“With an experienced player like Matija Poscic in the fold, we are pleased to have one of the more accomplished 2007 graduates in Mac Koshwal join the program as well,” Wainwright said. “Mac brings a BIG EAST Conference body at 6-9, 240 with great skills and mobility. He can face up and play on the perimeter but will also do the dirty work underneath. Mac’s physical ability will have an immediate impact and allow him to be competitive in the BIG EAST Conference right away. We felt Mac could play for any team in the country and is somebody, down the road, that could be one of the best players ever to play at this University.”

Koshwal was a prep teammate of current DePaul freshman Thijin Moses. He joins DePaul’s 2006-07 recruiting class of Darquavis Tucker a 6-5, 205-pound guard from Saginaw, Michigan’s Arthur Hill High School, Matija Poscic a 6-9, 240-pound junior college forward from Opatija, Croatia who is playing at Highland Community College in Freeport, Illinois and Michael Bizoukas a 6-1, 170-pound guard, Munster High School in Munster, Indiana.
“With Sammy Mejia being a senior, we needed an all-purpose perimeter player who can guard bigger players. We felt there were only a couple of players out there who could do all of those things and Dar Tucker was one of them,” Wainwright said. “Dar is an exceptional rebounder for his size and has a very good three-point shot. What we like most about him is his ability to compete and be aggressive. At 6-5, 205-pounds, Dar’s body type allows him to compete right away at the BIG EAST Conference level and that is exactly what we needed.”

“Michael Bizoukas helps solidify our program’s perimeter game. Michael is an outstanding ball-handler, defender and a true leader. Michael is a young man that right now might be a little bit under the national radar, but down the road we believe will be a tremendous BIG EAST Conference guard because he has the intangibles of toughness, intelligence and desire to improve on a daily basis,” Wainwright said.
