KALAMAZOO, Mich. - A first-half goal by Julian Chill proved to be the difference as DePaul topped Western Michigan, 1-0, in an exhibition match on Sunday afternoon. It was the final preseason game for both teams.
Chill tallied his first score of the exhibition schedule at 37:30 with an unassisted goal. The junior fired a shot to the upper corner that beat Bronco goalkeeper, Casey Aubil.
DePaul kept the pressure on throughout the match, outshooting Western Michigan, 19-12, and taking three corner kicks while the hosts managed four corner kick attempts.
The Blue Demons conclude the preseason schedule with a 1-1 exhibition record. DePaul dropped a 2-1 decision to Northern Illinois at Wish Field on Tuesday.
DePaul opens the regular season with a pair of matches next weekend. The team travels to Valparaiso on Friday afternoon before hosting Loyola-Chicago on Sunday. The Loyola match is the second game of a DePaul soccer doubleheader as the Blue Demon women's team plays Eastern Washington at 1 p.m.
