Volleyball Drops a Five Game Match at Rutgers

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ – Despite a balanced attack the DePaul volleyball team dropped a hard fought five game (26-30, 30-24, 24-30, 30-19, 20-18) match to BIG EAST foe Rutgers Sunday at the College Avenue Gym. The loss drops the Blue Demons to 4-12 and 0-2 in conference play while the Scarlet Knights improve to 4-8 and 1-1 in league play.
DePaul seniors, Ellen Hayes, Morgan Ingersoll, and Deane Gibson led the Blue Demons offensively, tallying 41 of DePaul's 71 kills and each finished with an attack percentage above .240. Hayes recorded her fifth double-double of the season, registering 19 kills and a 14 digs. Ingersoll led DePaul with 23 kills and Gibson had a team-high .316 (9-3-19) attack percentage.
The Blue Demons sailed to a 30-24 victory in game one, hitting a match-high .353 and tallied 18 kills. DePaul's hitting cooled off in the next three games hitting .159, 263 and .031, respectively. The Blue Demons successfully terminated the ball in the fifth frame knocking down 12 kills for a .300 attack percentage.
The Scarlet Knights tallied just 62 kills in the match and hit a match-high .333 and tallied 15 kills in game two.
The see-saw match was highlighted with a hard hitting game five which saw the Scarlet Knights win the grudge match 20-18.
