Throwers Continue Success at Notre Dame Indoor Opener

NOTRE DAME, Ind.- Seven Blue Demons posted BIG EAST Championship qualifying performances as the DePaul men’s and women’s track and field teams competed at Friday’s Notre Dame Indoor Opener. No team scores were kept during the meet at the
Freshman Brad Millar won the men’s weight throw with a mark of 15.84m. He has now surpassed the BIG EAST standard of 14.97m in each of the season’s four meets. Following in fourth place, freshman Curtis Hoag posted his first qualifying weight throw performance of the season with a distance of 15.51m.
DePaul also earned success in the women’s throwing events as senior Jamie Holifield, junior Tammy Burris and freshman Virginia MacFabe all posted qualifying throws for their fourth consecutive meet. Holifield took second place in the weight throw with a mark of 18.11m, while Burris finished fourth with a distance of 16.45 and MacFabe recorded a throw of 16.05 to place fifth. All three surpassed the BIG EAST standard of 15.25m. Burris also notched a personal-best mark of 13.20m in the shot put, placing sixth overall.
Freshman Joe Strawder posted a pair of BIG EAST qualifying performances as he finished third in the triple jump with a distance of 13.78m and fourth in the long jump with a mark of 6.74m. It was his first time exceeding the standard in the triple jump and his second time qualifying in the long jump this season.
The track events saw several Blue Demons post their best performances of the season. Sophomore Gabe Harris finished third in the 400m dash with a time of 48.73. It is his fastest time of the season and surpasses the qualifying standard of 49.84. In the women’s 200m dash, sophomore Stephanie Williams notched a team season-best time of 25.54.
