DePaul Falls at USF

TAMPA, Fla. Playing the first of two road games this week against division opponents, the DePaul men’s soccer team lost at South Florida on Friday night. The Bulls scored both goals in the first half for a 2-0 decision over the Blue Demons.
USF (9-2-2, 4-2-1 BIG EAST) struck quickly with a goal by Simon Schoendorf in the fourth minute. Jordan Seabrook and Armante Marshall set up Schoendorf’s goal at 3:24 and were credited with assists on the play.
The Bulls added an insurance goal in the 34th minute as Tony Taylor scored on a shot from the left side. Schoendorf and Luke Magill picked up the assists on the final goal of the match at 33:23.
DePaul (7-5-0, 3-4-0 BIG EAST) was held scoreless despite outshooting USF, 12-10, and attempting four corner kicks. Nine of the 12 Blue Demon shots came in the second half with Steffen Vroom and Alex Mangan taking four shots apiece. Brian Visser played the first half before Erik Sorenson played in the final 45 minutes. Visser made one save and his counterpart, Diego Restrepo, totaled five stops for USF.
The Blue Demons play at Villanova on Saturday afternoon in a BIG EAST Conference match. Kickoff at the VU Soccer Complex is set for 1 p.m. ET.
Match Notes: The loss was the first for DePaul this season when outshooting an opponent... the Blue Demons entered the match with a 6-0-0 record when taking more shots... Erik Sorenson played in goal for the first time this season... USF now leads the series, 12-2-0.
