CHICAGO DePaul goalkeeper Brian Visser was recently named to the Great Lakes Region third team by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). The 2007 BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Year is the second DePaul player to earn NSCAA/adidas All-Region honors.
Visser rewrote the DePaul record books in 2007 with new marks for career shutouts, season shutouts and consecutive shutouts. The junior finished this season with 10 shutouts breaking the previous mark of six shutouts with a 1-0 victory over Rutgers on Oct. 13. He started the season with four straight blankings to break the previous consecutive shutout record of three straight set by four different players. In his 55 career matches in three seasons, Visser also holds the career record with 17 shutouts.
In addition to the 10 shutouts, Visser also totaled 62 saves and allowed just 16 goals in nearly 1,864 minutes in goal for the Blue Demons. He finished the season ranked among NCAA leaders in goals against average at 38th and was third in the BIG EAST with 10 shutouts.
The Blue Demons finished the season tying the program record for most wins with 12 in 2007. DePaul claimed the BIG EAST Regular-Season Championship by winning the Red Division and earned the program's first NCAA Championship appearance.
Visser joins Patrick Vyncke as the only DePaul players to earn NSCAA/adidas All-Region recognition. Vyncke was a third team honoree for the Midwest Region in 2003.
