Dar Tucker Named BIG EAST Rookie of the Week

CHICAGO DePaul freshman Dar Tucker picked up BIG EAST Rookie of the Week honors after scoring 18 points in a 70-64 win at Detroit on Saturday. He was joined by Syracuse's Paul Harris who was named the league's Player of the Week.
Tucker totaled 18 points, seven rebounds, three assists and two steals in his return to Michigan. The Saginaw native led the Blue Demons in rebounding while going 7-for-13 from the field against the Titans. He joins Draelon Burns as BIG EAST weekly honorees as Burns was the BIG EAST Player of the Week on Dec. 3.
DePaul opens the BIG EAST schedule on Thursday, Jan. 3 against No. 18 Villanova. Tipoff at the Allstate Arena is set for 8 p.m. on ESPN2 and www.depaulbluedemons.com. The Wildcats are the first of three straight home opponents with Providence visiting the Allstate Arena on Saturday, Jan. 5 and No. 8 Georgetown on Tuesday, Jan. 8. BIG EAST Player of the Week (Dec. 31)
PAUL HARRIS, Syracuse, F, So.: Harris had season-highs of 19 points and 15 rebounds for his BIG EAST-leading seventh double-double of the year to pace Syracuse to a 95-74 win against Northeastern, extending the Orange’s winning streak to four games. Harris also had seven assists and four steals in the win.
BIG EAST Rookie of the Week (Dec. 31)
DAR TUCKER, DePaul, F, Fr.: Tucker scored 18 points with a team-high seven rebounds, three assists and two steals to lead DePaul to a 70-64 road win against Detroit. Despite starting just three games, Tucker is the Blue Demons’ second leading scorer with 13.6 ppg.
BIG EAST Honor Roll
Jerome Dyson, Connecticut, G, So.: Scored 23 points with five rebounds and three steals in an 85-82 road win against Central Florida.
Terrence Williams, Louisville, F, Jr.: Averaged 19.5 points, 4.0 rebounds and 4.5 assists, shooting 55.6 percent from the field in wins against Morehead State and Iona.
Rob Kurz, Notre Dame, F, Sr.: Registered his third double-double of the season with a 15-point, 11-rebound effort in an 87-54 win against Brown.
JR Inman, Rutgers, F, Jr.: Enjoyed his fourth double-double of the season with 16 points and 10 rebounds in a 73-67 win against Manhattan.
Kentrell Gransberry, USF, C, Sr.: Had his sixth double-double of the year, scoring 21 points with 14 rebounds in an 87-48 win against Winston-Salem State.
