Volleyball Falls at Bowling Green

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio The DePaul volleyball team fell to Bowling Green State University 3-0 (30-15, 30-15, 30-23) Friday in its first match of the Falcon Best Western Invitational. The loss snapped the Blue Demons four-match winning streak as the team fell to 4-6, BGSU improves to 6-5.
Bowling Green had the hot hand from the first point as the team hit .349 for the match while the Blue Demons hits a dismal -.010. DePaul tallied 23 kills in the match compared to the Falcons 40. BGSU's Corey Domek paced all players with nine kills for a .615 attack percentage.
Down 10-7 in the first game, the Blue Demons could not find an answer for the Falcons as they rallied off five unanswered points for a 15-7 lead. BGSU continued to extend its lead as unforced errors plagued the Blue Demons. Bowling Green won the first game 30-15.
DePaul could not find an offensive rhythm in the second set as they tallied just seven kills, but committed seven errors on 29 attempts. BGSU was unstoppable, hitting .333 for the game and five service aces helped the Falcons to a 30-15 game two victory.
The Blue Demons tied game three at four, but were unable to break away as the Falcons went on an 8-4 run to open a 12-8 lead. The Falcons with timely hitting, won the final set 30-23.
Freshman outside hitter Charla Drabant led the Blue Demons with six kills; while freshman libero Katherine Knutson led all players with 13 digs.
The Blue Demons return to the court on Saturday, facing Valparaiso at 9 a.m. (CST) and finish the tournament with a 3 p.m. match with Duquesne.
