CHICAGO Following BIG EAST Tournament wins over Pittsburgh and Connecticut, DePaul's Willy Lara and Brian Visser were named to a pair of National Teams of the Week. Lara was selected by Soccer America for its weekly team while Visser was picked by CollegeSoccerNews.com.
Lara scored the game-winning goal in the 73rd minute of DePaul's 1-0 win at Connecticut on Saturday. The quarterfinal victory sends the Blue Demons to the BIG EAST Semifinals for the second straight season. He was the lone BIG EAST player on the Soccer America Team of the Week.
Visser posted a shutout in the win over the Huskies and also earned the victory in a 3-1 win over Pittsburgh in the first round of the BIG EAST Championship. His shutout at Connecticut marked his 11th clean sheet this season for a new school record. Visser set the previous mark of 10 shutouts during the 2007 campaign. Like Lara, Visser was the only player from the BIG EAST on the CollegeSoccerNews.com Team of the Week.
DePaul faces St. John's Friday evening in the BIG EAST Semifinals. The game can be seen live on CBS College Sports with a 5:30 p.m. ET kickoff. USF takes on Notre Dame in the second semifinal in Tampa with the two winners advancing to the finals on Sunday afternoon.
