DePaul 67 UIC 63
CHICAGO Mac Koshwal scored 14 points, grabbed 15 rebounds and hit two key free throws with 0:04 remaining to push DePaul to a 67-63 win over UIC on Saturday at the Pavilion.
DePaul jumped out of the gates early building a six-point lead eight minutes into the contest but UIC chipped away and actually took the lead at 24-23 with 4:26 to go in the half. The advantage grew to as big as five (33-28) with 56 seconds left before Blue Demon freshman Devin Hill hit consecutive three-point field goals in the final 48 seconds to give DePaul a 34-33 halftime lead.
As it did in the first half, DePaul roared out of the locker room in the second period and built its lead to 57-44 with 8:50 to play. After Krys Faber scored to make it 59-48 with 6:47 to play, UIC went on an 11-0 run and tied the game at 59 with 2:26 to go. DePaul’s Jeremiah Kelly then scored his only points of the night when he drilled a three with 2:05 to play and DePaul never relinquished the lead.
Trailing by two, UIC had a chance to take the lead but Josh Mayo’s three-point attempt with six seconds to play was short and Koshwal then hit his two free throws to seal the victory.

Quoteable
“I appreciate the crowd and thought it was a great atmosphere for this early in the year and I think it will help both teams grow. I thought our freshmen got a crash course in pressure on the road and they came though it well. Devin Hill’s two thee-point field goals at the end of the first half were the turning point in the game, Krys Faber did a great job of spelling Mac which kept him fresh and helped him hit those free throws at the end and Jeremiah drilled that big three after UIC had tied it.” DePaul head coach Jerry Wainwright.
