DePaul Hosts Pittsburgh in BIG EAST First Round

CHICAGO Following a third-place finish in the BIG EAST Red Division, the DePaul men’s soccer team will host Blue Division No. 6 Pittsburgh on Wednesday afternoon in the first round of the conference tournament. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. with the winner of Wednesday’s game advancing to the quarterfinals at No. 2 Blue Connecticut on Saturday.
The Blue Demons secured the third seed with a 1-0 overtime win over Villanova on Saturday. They enter the BIG EAST Championship at 7-6-4 overall and finished the conference schedule with a 5-4-2 mark. Pittsburgh stands at 7-7-3 overall and went 3-6-2 in league action.
DePaul claimed the regular-season match between the two sides by a 1-0 score on Sept. 28. Erich Reichmann tallied the game-winner in the 64th minute as the Blue Demons held a 11-6 shot advantage in the match. The all-time series between the Panthers and Blue Demons is tied, 2-2-0, with DePaul taking each of the last two meetings by a 1-0 score.
Connecticut awaits the winner of Wednesday’s game for a Saturday night quarterfinal in Storrs, Conn. The quarterfinal match starts at 7 p.m. ET. The winner of that game advances to the BIG EAST Semifinals in Tampa, Fla., at the USF Soccer/Track Stadium.
The tournament field will be finalized tonight following the conclusion of the St. John's-Rutgers game. Rutgers or Cincinnati will be the No. 6 Red Divsion seed pending the outcome this evening.
