CHICAGO The No. 71 DePaul women’s tennis team heads east this weekend for road duals with No. 70 Princeton and BIG EAST Conference rival St. John’s. The Blue Demons challenge the Tigers on Saturday at 10 a.m. (CST) in Princeton, New Jersey before they face the Red Storm on Sunday at 10 a.m. in Queens, New York.
DePaul (5-3) enters the weekend looking to snap a two-match skid. The Blue Demons suffered a 6-1 loss to No. 68 Illinois last Friday before they dropped a 4-3 decision to No. 45 Iowa on Sunday. Princeton (4-1) comes off a 4-3 road victory over Maryland, while St. John’s (0-3) took a 5-2 loss at Boston College on Sunday.
Through eight dual matches, junior Dunja Antunovic tops the DePaul lineup with a 5-3 record at No. 1 singles. Freshman Selma Salkovic carries a 7-1 singles record during the dual season with an unblemished 4-0 slate in the No. 3 spot, while senior Beatrix Csordas holds a 2-0 record in singles play.
Seniors Gergana Ganeva and Anja Mihaldinec boast a perfect 4-0 doubles record this season and sophomore Kirsten Gambrell is 2-1 when coupled with Antunovic at No. 1 doubles. Csordas and Salkovic have paired up for six doubles victories during the dual season.
DePaul has won its last three meetings with St. John’s. Last season saw the Blue Demons top the Red Storm, 6-1, on February 18 at Lakeshore Athletic Club. During the 2006 campaign, DePaul defeated St. John’s, 4-2, at the BIG EAST Championship and 6-1 during regular-season play.
