Women's Tennis Stops Syracuse

MILWAUKEE, Wis. The No. 69 DePaul women’s tennis team picked up a 6-1 neutral-court victory over BIG EAST Conference rival Syracuse on Saturday. The Blue Demons took the doubles point and five singles matches from the Orange at the Helfaer Tennis Center.
The top doubles match saw seniors Beatrix Csordas and Gergana Ganeva post an 8-6 victory over Simone Kalhorn and Ashley Spicer. Junior Dunja Antunovic and sophomore Kirsten Gambrell gave the Blue Demons an 8-6 win over Maria Vasilyeva and Jacquelynn Tang at No. 2 doubles, while senior Anja Mihaldinec and freshman Selma Salkovic rolled past Chelsea Jones and Christina Tan, 8-3, in the No. 3 match.
Antunovic improved her dual-season singles record to 6-5 with a 6-0, 7-5 win over Tan in the top match, while Ganeva cruised past Kalhorn, 6-1, 6-0, in the No. 2 singles match. Salkovic earned her tenth singles victory of the spring with a 6-4, 6-2 triumph over Spicer at No. 3 and freshman Katarina Milinkovic knocked off Jones, 6-2, 6-2, in the No. 5 match.
Gambrell notched her eighth singles win of the dual season with a 7-5, 6-0 victory over Tang at No. 6. The No. 4 match saw Csordas take her first loss of the spring as Vasilyeva won, 6-2, 6-1.
The Blue Demons improve their overall record to 8-3 while their BIG EAST record rises to a perfect 2-0. Syracuse falls to 6-5 overall with a 4-1 performance in league play.
DePaul returns to action on Sunday with a road match at No. 51 Purdue. The Blue Demons and Boilermakers tangle at 11 a.m. on the courts of the Schwartz Tennis Center in West Lafayette, Indiana.
