CHICAGO The No. 57 DePaul women’s tennis team hits the road this weekend for a pair of duals. The Blue Demons face No. 28 Indiana on Saturday at 9 a.m. (CST) in Bloomington, Indiana before they travel to Milwaukee, Wisconsin on Sunday for a 1 p.m. neutral-court match against BIG EAST Conference rival Rutgers.
DePaul (9-3, 2-0 BIG EAST) enters the weekend on a four-match winning streak. Last weekend saw the Blue Demons record a pair of 6-1 victories over BIG EAST rival Syracuse and then-No. 51 Purdue. Junior Dunja Antunovic gave DePaul a pair of singles points as she improved her No. 1 record to 7-5, while senior Gergana Ganeva posted two wins in the No. 2 match.
Through 12 spring duals, freshman Selma Salkovic holds an 11-1 singles record, with eight wins at No. 3 and three victories at No. 4. Sophomore Kirsten Gambrell carries a 9-3 singles record and has teamed up with Antunovic for seven doubles wins.
This weekend’s duals give DePaul head coach Mark Ardizzone a chance to move closer to his 200th career victory. Ardizzone stands three wins shy of the milestone with a record of 197-113.
Indiana carries an 8-3 record after splitting duals last week with UNC-Greensboro and Wake Forest. The Hoosiers fell, 4-3, to the Demon Deacons before they topped UNC-Greensboro, 5-2. Rutgers (7-1, 2-0 BIG EAST) comes off a 4-3 victory at Stony Brook on Sunday. The Scarlet Knights face BIG EAST rival Marquette on Saturday at the Helfaer Tennis Center.
DePaul split its last meetings with Indiana and Rutgers. The Blue Demons fell, 5-2, to the Hoosiers on January 27, 2007 but defeated the Scarlet Knights, 6-1, on February 18, 2006.
