Tennis Continues to Earn Wins at the Bronco Invitational

KALAMAZOO, Mich. Day two of the Bronco Invitational saw four more wins added to the DePaul women’s tennis team’s victory column on Saturday. Gia McKnight remained undefeated in singles play on the season, while doubles duos Selma Salkovic and Sandra Zmak, and Kirsten Gambrell and Cali Gustafson picked up two more victories against a BIG EAST Conference opponents.
McKnight went head-to-head against Western Michigan’s Rachel Denny to win 6-3, 6-2. The victory earns her a spot in Sunday’s Gold Flight semi-final. Also representing DePaul in semi-finals action is Zmak, who is competing in the Brown Flight.
With a score of 8-3, Salkovic and Zmak knocked BIG EAST rival Marquette’s Rachel Hush and Robin Metzler off of the Silver Flight Doubles bracket before bowing out to Michelle Sammons and Jennifer Rabot of Purdue, 2-8.
Salkovic proved strong against BIG EAST opponents in singles play as well. She picked up a win against West Virginia’s Ashley Pilsbury, 6-0, 6-2.
Gambrell and Gustafson played the West Virginia duo of Gabriela Blaskovicova and Catie Wickline. They won the match 8-3, before falling to Rachel Denny and Amanda Moccia of WMU 3-8.
The tournament comes to a conclusion tomorrow, Sept. 28, beginning at 9 a.m.
