DePaul Volleyball Gears Up For Final Road Trip

DePaul (6-19, 0-10 BIG EAST) is 29-23 against this week's competition including eight-straight wins against Marquette. The Blue Demons have won of total of 28 matches against the Golden Eagles, and are 1-5 against Syracuse.

Blue Demon Hits
With 2,334 career assists, junior Christy Landschoot inches closer to Sheila Carroll's 2,816 fourth place total on the all-time assists list.... senior outside hitter Sarah Cullen has nine double-doubles (kills-digs) this season and 37 in her career... Chandler Carney followed up her career-high 13 kills against Rutgers last Saturday with 25 against Seton Hall... Sarah Cullen leads the team with 278 kills and and 279 digs... Christy Landschoot dished out 50 assists against the Pirates to set a new season-high...Cullen has registered a double-double (kills-digs) in nine matches this season bringing her career total to 36... other Blue Demons to record a double-doubles include Christy Landschoot (assists-digs) and Sammy Geiger (kills-assists)... Kate Letcher has surpassed the 10-kill total eight times this season... Sarah Cullen has reached double figures in digs during 16 matches this season to lead the squad, while Chelsea Thurlby has reached the plateau 13 times... while Lauren Blasi tops the overall blocks total with 43, Chandler Carney has recorded an impressive eight solo blocks... DePaul leads the all-time series against Marquette 28-18... Syracuse holds a 5-1 all-time series advantage.
Blue vs. Orange
After opening league action with a 7-1 record, Syracuse (18-9, 7-4 BIG EAST) has dropped the last three conference contests. Its 7-4 BIG EAST record places the Orange fifth place with three conferences matches to go before the top-eight teams head to the BIG EAST Championship Tournament. Sarah Morton tops the BIG EAST with 153 total blocks, while ranking third with 1.47 blocks per game. She has also tallied a league-best 104 service aces. Last season, the Orange managed to slide past the Blue Demons 3-2 to extend their all-time series advantage to 5-1.
Grounding the Golden Eagles
Marquette (15-11, 4-7 BIG EAST) enters this weekend tied for 10th place in the conference standings after back-to-back losses to Cincinnati and Lousiville. Rabbecka Gonya ranks fourth in the BIG EAST with a .334 hitting percentage, while Ashley Beyer sits in ninth with 3.29 kills per game. The Blue Demons have won the last eight matches against the Golden Eagles, including last season's 3-2 decision at McGrath Arena. Marquette attempts to blemish Notre Dame's perfect 10-0 league record on Friday evening before entertaining DePaul on Sunday.
Last Time Out
DePaul stumbled last week as the squad dropped a 3-1 decision to Rutgers before Seton Hall narrowly escaped McGrath Arena with a 3-2 win. Chandler Carney paced DePaul with 38 kills, including a team-high 25 against the Pirates. Chelsea Thurbly contributed defensively with 33 digs.
Looking to the Week Ahead
The Blue Demons conclude the 2009 season next weekend, when the welcome USF to McGrath Arena on Friday, Nov. 13 to kick-off the evening's double header. Following the 6 p.m. match, the women's basketball team takes the floor for its first game of the season against Central Michigan. On Sunday, Nov. 15, DePaul celebrates Senior Day before going head-to-head against Georgetown. Lone senior Sarah Cullen will be recognized in her final match as a Blue Demon.
