BLOOMINGTON, Ind. The DePaul men’s and women’s track and field squads concluded the Indiana Relays earlier today. The Blue Demons left with 11 top-ten finishes in a field of competition that boasts ranked opponents and professional athletes.
Brad Millar earned second place in the weight throw after hitting a distance of 18.62m. The throw, which ranks as the junior’s second-best mark of the season, counts as Millar’s fifth straight BIG EAST Conference qualifying mark in the event.
The Blue Demon throwers continued to hit mile stones, as Melissa Fraser, Virginia MacFabe, Alanna Kovacs, and Ebonie Cobb all placed in the top-ten in their respected events. Fraser improved her personal record in the weight throw to 15.95m to place fifth. Her previous PR of 15.55m was set just last week at the Bob Eubanks Invitational at Grand Valley State. Kovacs also placed fifth, recording a shot put distance of 13.40m. Both Fraser’s and Kovacs’ marks surpassed the BIG EAST standard.
MacFabe placed seventh in the weight throw after throwing a distance of 15.08m, while Cobb posted a shot put mark of 12.37m to finish ninth.
Mary Cate Quiett finished second in the 800m after recording a season-best time of 2:13.87. Quiett’s career record currently stands at 2:11.34, which also counts as a DePaul school record. The time is the sophomore’s third conference qualifying mark in the 800m, and her fifth overall. She has also earned a berth at the conference championships in the 1,000m and the mile run.
Gilbert Lifton recorded a 49.42 in the 400m to claim seventh place. His time is just two-tenths behind Gabe Harris’ team-best performance of 49.40.
Joe Strawder earned sixth place in the long jump behind a leap of 6.73m
Stephanie Williams, who finished second her 200m dash heat, placed fourth overall with a time 24.93.
Next up, the Blue Demons return to Notre Dame for the third time this season to compete in the Meyo Invitational on February 6-7.
