Blue Demons End the Regular Season with a Conference Win

The No. 41 DePaul women’s tennis team concluded regular season play on the road with a 7-0 shutout against BIG EAST Conference rival Cincinnati. The Blue Demons improve to a 19-4 (3-1 BIG EAST) record while the Bearcats fall to 15-7 (6-2 BIG EAST).
DePaul jumped to a quick 1-0 lead after winning all three doubles matches. Anna Redecsi teamed up with Selma Salkovic in the No. 1 doubles position to defeat Valeriya Dandik and Ksenia Slynko, 8-1. At No. 3 doubles, Katarina Milinkovic and Gia McKnight toped Jessica Wise and Sfiyya Ismail by a score of 8-4. Jennifer Rowen and Elizabeth Young were able to force a tie breaker against Dunja Antunovic and Kirsten Gambrell, but were unable to overcome the Blue Demon duo, losing in the tiebreaker 7-2.
Milinkovic stared in singles action, winning 12-staight games for a 6-0, 6-0 win in the No. 5 singles spot. Antunovic bared the top match responsibilities and walked away with a decisive 6-0, 6-1 victory. McKnight earned a win in the No. 4 spot, triumphing over Ismail 6-1, 6-3.
Redecsi kept the Blue Demons perfect in the No. 2 singles match, defeating Rowen, 6-2, 6-3, while Zmak took a 7-6, 7-5 decision over Dandik. Gambrell dropped her first set, 2-6, but recovered quickly to put the second two stanzas away, 6-1, 6-1.
DePaul returns to action on Thurs., April 16-Sun. April 19 for the BIG EAST Championships.
