CHICAGO - The DePaul women's tennis team begins the home portion of its schedule on Saturday when it hosts a dual doubleheader with BIG EAST Conference foe Villanova and a nonconference dual with Butler. Action gets underway at the Lakeshore Athletic Club at 2 p.m.
The Blue Demons enter the dual portion of their schedule after playing at the Wildcat Invitational last weekend in Evanston. DePaul, who begin 2010 ranked No. 45 in the Campbell's/ITA rankings, registered seven singles wins and five doubles victories against student-athletes from No. 2 Northwestern and No. 22 Vanderbilt.
DePaul's first dual of 2010 is against BIG EAST member Villanova. Although the Blue Demons joined the BIG EAST in 2005-06 the two programs are meeting for the first time. The Wildcats open their weekend at Marquette on Friday.
The Blue Demons are familiar with Butler as the two programs have squared off in each of the last six seasons. DePaul holds a 5-1 series advantage in those duals and has won the last two meetings by a combined score of 13-1. Butler won the 2007 meeting, 4-3 while the Blue Demons combined for a 20-1 record from 2004-06.
This season -- Kirsten Gambrell, Katarina Milinkovic, Anna Redecsi and Selma Salkovic all have seven singles victories; while the No. 9 doubles pair of Redecsi and Salkovic are 11-3.
Following Saturday's doubleheader, the Blue Demons play at the ITA Indoor Qualifier Jan. 30-31 that is hosted by Notre Dame. DePaul opens the Qualifier on Saturday with league rival Notre Dame and will play either North Carolina or Boise State on Sunday.
