Behind the Bricks
Our new weekly feature "Behind the Bricks" allows DePaul letterwinners a chance to tell the DePaul community a little bit about themselves, a brief reflection on their time as a Blue Demon student-athlete and where they have gone since stepping off the court, field or diamond.
This feature was renamed "Beyond the Bricks" to coincide with the dedication of the John and Dale Melbourne Herklotz Letterwinners Plaza and Champions Courtyard. With the plaza filled with 3,800 bricks representing DePaul's student-athletes since 1926, each brick has a story. "Beyond the Bricks" will allow letterwinners to tell their "DePaul Story".

1. What does being a DePaul Letterwinner mean to you?
I have tremendous pride in being a DePaul letterwinner. DePaul athletics is full of history and success stories and it has a wonderful reputation both in the city of Chicago as well as around the country. I'm proud to say that I had the opportunity to be a small part of it during my playing days.
2. Why did you choose DePaul?
The academic programs, the ability to stay close to family and have them attend games, and the fact that Eug was a great recruiter.
3. What was your favorite memory while at DePaul?
Being with teammates, coaches, and family members while our team gained an at-large berth during the 1994 NCAA Tournament selection show.
4. What did receiving a scholarship from DePaul mean to you?
It meant that I was given the opportunity to earn a degree at a highly-respected university while playing a game I loved. It also meant that I wouldn't have to work a side job to pay for it. I'll always remain very thankful and grateful for the scholarship and the opportunities.
5. What was your funniest memory at DePaul?
Having my wrists and ankles wrapped in athletic tape and an Eddie Munster widow's peak applied to my forehead with eye black, courtesy of the juniors and seniors on the team.
6. Brief Summary of your life from graduation till now?
Upon graduation I began working at American Benefit Services, inc. as a Junior Account Manager. I am now the Director of Operations and just celebrated my 15th anniversary with the firm. I participated in triathlons for 5 years, finished in the Top 10 in every race I entered, and qualified for an International Championship in Europe. I am also a certified personal trainer and an aspiring fitness model.
7. What advice would you give to a current or future student-athlete?
Live in the moment and enjoy all that you can. Nurture friendships so that you can count on them many years after you leave DePaul. The connections you make are priceless.
