CHICAGO - Cold and rainy conditions couldn't slow the DePaul men's and women's cross country teams at Saturday's Sean Earl Lakefront Invitational hosted by Loyola-Chicago. With a score of 277 the men's team came in ninth out of 41 teams and with a score of 363 the women's team came in 13th out of 42 teams.
Matthew Graham continued to led the men's team and finished the race in first with a time of 24:32 to win by an impressive 21 seconds. He was fallowed by two freshmen, Chris Miedema and Edward McDaniel. Miedema finished in 52nd place with a time of 24:32 and McDaniel finished in 60th with a time of 26:05.
Following Graham, Miedema and McDaniel was Luke Rygh who finished the 8k course with at time of 26:18 and Brian Begalke at 26:22. Other finishers for DePaul included Max Clink (26:26), Max Rodrigues (26:50), Ian Sanchez (27:16), Dennis Baliga (27:28), Dan Steinfels (27:32), Chris Gallardo (28:04), Tyler Schmitt (28:12), Luke Holt (28:14), Lucas Junk (28:47) and Frank Deaton (29:03).
The women's team was missing upperclassmen leaders Toni Salvatore, Mary Cate Quiett and Stephanie Hughes. Kelly Pickering was the top finisher for the Blue Demons with a time of 18:38 for 30th place in the 5k race. Claire O'Brien was the next DePaul runner to cross the finish line in 42nd with a time of 18:53. Following Pickering and O'Brien were Erin Lakie (19:18), Courtney Avvampato (19:31), Elena Sanz (19:33), Kimberly ReMine (19:40), Kristen Lafferty (20:12), Kelsey Dolan (20:19), Katherine Vollrath (20:20), Alexandra Muller (20:43), Jenny Kranc (20:47), Stacy Schmitz (20:53), Hannah Pulliam (21:00) and Kim Boisvert (21:16). With a score of 363 the women's team came in 13 out of 42 teams.
The Blue Demons run next at the Bradley Classic on Oct. 15.
