Five in Double-Figures Lead DePaul Past Northwood

CHICAGO - After building a 15-point advantage at halftime, the DePaul men's basketball team scored the first 16 points of the second half to put away visiting Northwood in an exhibition game at McGrath Arena. Five players scored in double-figures as the Blue Demons posted a 107-62 victory Saturday evening.
Cleveland Melvin scored 19 points to lead all scorers while Jeremiah Kelly and Brandon Young added 17 each. Mike Stovall scored 14 and Devin Hill chipped in 13 points as 11 players reached the scoring column.
The Blue Demons started the game frigid from the field hitting just one of their first six shots to trail, 10-6, with 15:47 left. The lone bucket was a Mike Stovall three-pointer while Brandon Young hit three-of-four free throw attempts.
Trailing 20-17 with 12:13 left in the first half, the Blue Demons got on track with by outscoring the Timberwolves, 31-13, to head into halftime with a 48-33 advantage.
DePaul scored 45 points off 28 Northwood turnovers and never looked back after opening the second half with a 16-0 run. Kelly led the way during the run with three three-pointers and for the game, the junior knocked down all four attempts from behind the arc. The Blue Demons led by as many as 49 points with just under five minutes left in the game and shot .647 (22-of-34) from the field in the second half.
Melvin went 9-for-11 from the field and added four rebounds while Tony Freeland pulled down nine boards to go along with five points. Stovall finished the evening with 14 points, five assists, five steals and two boards.
Bobby Lewis led Northwood with a 14-point, 10-rebound double-double and Will Bowles added nine points.
The Blue Demons conclude the exhibition portion of the schedule next Sunday at McGrath Arena with a 6 p.m. game against Lewis.
