CHICAGO - DePaul returns to McGrath Arena for the second and final time this season with a Saturday night game against Ball State. The Blue Demons and Cardinals are scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. start following the DePaul-Northern Illinois women's basketball game at 5 p.m. DePaul enters the game at 3-5 overall following a 73-51 loss at Indiana State on Wednesday.
Ball State enters the game at 4-3 overall as the two programs meet for just the third time. The Blue Demons hold a 2-0 advantage in the series with Saturday marking the first meeting since January 1980.
All of the action can be heard on WSCR "The Score " 670 AM in Chicagoland with Zach Zaidman (play-by-play) and Laurence Holmes (analyst). Following the Ball State game, the Blue Demons play their final three non-conference games at Allstate Arena starting on Dec. 14 against Milwaukee. Zaidman and Holmes are scheduled to call the action on "The Score" starting at 8 p.m. and the game can also be seen in Chicago on "The U Too" (WCUU-TV).
Noting the Blue Demons: The men's basketball program is 1,368-842 (.619) all-time... the Blue Demons have knocked down at least one three-pointer in 525 straight games... DePaul's last game without a three was Feb. 16, 1993 against UAB at Allstate Arena... DePaul is 3-0 all-time in games at McGrath Arena... the Blue Demons host Ball State at McGrath Arena on Dec. 11... the Nov. 16 game against Western Carolina was the 425th for DePaul at Allstate Arena... the Blue Demons are 304-123 (.712) all-time in Rosemont.
The Opponent - Ball State Cardinals: Ball State enters Saturday's action at 4-3 following an 58-51 win at Eastern Illinois on Dec. 8... Jauwan Scaife (14.4 pgg) and Jarrod Jones (14.3 pgg) lead the team in scoring... Randy Davis adds 10.6 points per game with a team highs of 48 assists and 12 steals... Jones in nearly averaging a double-double with a team-best 9.0 rebounds per outing... head coach Billy Taylor is in his fourth season at Ball State.
The Series: Saturday is just the third all-time meeting between the two programs... DePaul holds a 2-0 advantage in the series... the two sides played in back-to-back seasons in 1979-80... the Blue Demons posted an 85-76 win at Ball State on Feb. 14, 1979 followed by a 96-79 win at Alumni Hall on Jan. 7, 1980.
Against the MAC: DePaul is 76-33 all-time against teams from the Mid-American Conference... the Blue Demons are 2-0 this season against MAC squads... DePaul defeated Northern Illinois (86-84) on Dec. 2 and Central Michigan (71-62) on Dec. 5.
It Could Happen: A win would be No. 398 for head coach Oliver Purnell... a win would make DePaul 4-0 all-time in games at McGrath Arena... Tony Freeland is playing in his 35th career game... a start for Jeremiah Kelly extends his streak to 16 consecutive starts.
Demon Doings: Notes following DePaul's 73-51 loss at Indiana State on Dec. 8:
- Brandon Young's games in double-figures streak ended at seven games... he is the first freshman since Lance Williams in the 1998-99 season to start collegiate career with seven straight games in double-figures... Williams opened his DePaul career with nine straight games in double-figures.
- DePaul extended its streak to 525 consecutive games with a three-pointer.
- DePaul's 14 first-half points are the fewest in a half since scoring 14 in the second half against Connecticut on Jan. 28, 2009... the Blue Demons lost that game, 71-49.
- The Blue Demons dropped their 23rd straight regular-season road game... DePaul's last regular-season road win was Nov. 22, 2008 at UIC by a 67-63 score.
- DePaul is 97-31 all-time against Missouri Valley Conference opponents.
- The Sycamores defeated a BIG EAST opponent for the first time since an 84-63 win over Cincinnati on Dec. 15, 1983.
