CHICAGO - Former DePaul players Andre Brown and Mac Koshwal recently completed stints in the 2010 NBA Summer League in Las Vegas from July 9-16. Koshwal played five games for the Detroit Pistons while Brown saw action in five games for the Golden State Warriors.
Koshwal averaged 5.4 points and 7.2 rebounds in 18.8 minutes per outing. He put together his best effort of the week with a 10-point, 12-rebound double-double against Sacramento and grabbed six rebounds in each of his four other games. Koshwal followed the double-double against the Kings with a nine-point, six-rebound effort against Brown and Golden State.
In 81 career games over three seasons, Koshwal averaged 12.6 points and 9.3 rebounds while starting 76 times. He totaled 27 double-doubles and 58 career games in double-figures. Koshwal also gathered at least 10 rebounds in 37 career games including a career-high 22 rebounds against Creighton on Dec. 23, 2008. He is ranked among DePaul's all-time leaders in rebounding average (10th - 9.3 rpg), total rebounds (11th - 750), field goal percentage (12th - .522), steals (23rd - 114 steals) and career scoring (44th - 1,019 pts.). In the final game of the 2009-10 regular season against St. John's, he became the 46th player in program history with 1,000 career points.
Brown, with three NBA seasons under his belt, averaged 6.2 points and 7.8 rebounds in 22.0 minutes per game for Golden State. He finished the Summer League with 15 points and 11 boards against Phoenix and grabbed at least 10 rebounds in three of five games. The 6-10 forward also compiled rebounding efforts of 11 boards against Detroit and 10 rebounds against New Orleans.
Brown played for the Blue Demons from 2000-04 and totaled 1,146 points and 855 career rebounds. Those numbers put him at 33rd on the all-time scoring list and eighth among the program's top rebounders. He is also ranked among all-time leaders in blocked shots (14th - 70), rebounding average (15th - 8.0 rpg) and field goal percentage (t17th - .502). Brown nearly broke DePaul's game rebounding record with 27 boards at TCU on Feb. 6, 2002. He was one shy of Ken Warzynski's mark of 28 rebounds against Harvard on Jan. 3, 1970. Brown is just one of three DePaul players to grab at least 25 rebounds in a game. Errol Palmer is third on the game chart with 25 boards against Notre Dame on Feb. 27, 1965.
In addition to DePaul's alums playing in Las Vegas, four former Oliver Purnell-coached players were on NBA Summer League teams led by 2010 first-round draft pick Trevor Booker. Booker was the 23rd overall selection by the Washington Wizards and averaged 8.2 points and 4.2 rebounds in five games. Cliff Hammonds played in three games for Oklahoma City in the Orlando Summer League, James Mays saw action in four games for Indiana in the Orlando Summer League and Raymond Sykes was on the Miami roster in Las Vegas, but didn't see any action.
