CHICAGO - After a hard-fought four-set loss to Notre Dame on Friday, the DePaul volleyball team travels to Western Illinois for a Tuesday night non-conference matchup against the Leathernecks. The contest is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. in Macomb, Ill.
While the Fighting Irish took the first set on Friday, the Blue Demons stormed back to even the set wins at 1-1. After a tight third set, Notre Dame walked away with the match victory following the fourth frame.
In that match, junior Rachel Aumann, senior Molly Creek, and sophomore Natalie Rizzo put forth a dominating effort on the attack. The trio collectively notched 23 kills and committed just three errors in 41 total attacks, good for a .488 hitting percentage. Coupled with Creek's four total blocks (one solo block, three blocking assists), the Blue Demons gave the Fighting Irish some competition.
DePaul can also expect a tough battle in Western Illinois on Tuesday. The Leathernecks have been difficult on the opposition's offense this year, holding their foes to a .183 hitting percentage while registering almost 130 blocks on the season.
WIU enters the match with a 10-11 overall record and have thus far compiled a 3-8 mark at home. The Blue Demons head to Macomb holding a 4-16 record.
After Tuesday's showdown in Macomb, the Blue Demons return home and back to BIG EAST Conference play on Friday to take on USF at 7 p.m. at the McGrath-Phillips Arena in its annual "Dig Pink" match to benefit the Side Out Foundation.
