ORLANDO - DePaul wraps up the Old Spice Classic Sunday afternoon against Arizona State in the consolation bracket final. The Blue Demons and Sun Devils tangle at 2 p.m. ET at HP Field House in Buena Vista, Fla. After dropping its opener to Minnesota, 86-85, DePaul knocked off Texas Tech, 76-70, on Saturday. Arizona State dropped a 55-44 decision to Fairfield before topping Wake Forest, 84-56, on Friday.
Sunday's 2 p.m. ET start can be seen on ESPNU with Bob Picozzi (play-by-play) and Tim Welsh (analyst) calling all the action. Following the Old Spice Classic, DePaul opens its 32nd season at Allstate Arena with Ole Miss visiting Rosemont for the BIG EAST/SEC Challenge on Dec. 1.
Noting the Blue Demons: The men's basketball program is 1,375-862 (.615) all-time... the Blue Demons have knocked down at least one three-pointer in 552 straight games... DePaul's last game without a three was Feb. 16, 1993 against UAB at Allstate Arena... the Blue Demons are 307-132 (.699) all-time in Rosemont... DePaul is 5-1 (.833) all-time in games at McGrath-Phillips Arena... the Blue Demons have won four of their first five games in two of the last three seasons (2008-09 and 2009-10).
The DePaul-Arizona State Series: DePaul and Texas Tech meet for the just the third time with each team claiming a game in the series... the Sun Devils won the opener, 74-67, on Dec. 6, 1975 at Arizona State... DePaul won, 73-72, in overtime at the Rosemont Horizon on Nov. 27, 1982.
Old Spice Classic Notebook: DePaul's win over Texas Tech snapped a four-game losing streak in regular-season tournament play... DePaul went 0-3 at the 76 Classic last season and fell to Minnesota to open this week's Old Spice Classic... Cleveland Melvin and Brandon Young each scored at least 20 in DePaul's two games... it's the first time in the sophomores career's that they have both scored 20-plus in back-to-back games... Krys Faber's 22 rebounds this week are the most in back-to-back games for the senior... DePaul has 33 three-pointers through four games this season... the Blue Demons didn't surpass 33 three's until the ninth game last season.
