ORLANDO - After being named to the Old Spice Classic All-Tournament Team Sunday night, sophomore forward Cleveland Melvin was selected to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Monday afternoon. It's his first conference weekly honor of the season.
Melvin averaged a team-best 21.0 points per game in DePaul's three games while going a perfect 15-for-15 from the free throw line. He also averaged 6.3 rebounds while blocking four shots and recording three steals.
Melvin was the youngest player on the weekly honor roll that also featured three seniors and a junior. He was joined by Georgetown's Jason Clark, Pittsburgh's Tray Woodall, Herb Pope from Seton Hall and Kevin Jones from West Virginia. Kris Joseph of Syracuse was the league's Player of the Week and Connecticut's Andre Drummond was the Rookie of the Week.
During his rookie season a year ago, Melvin was named the BIG EAST Rookie of the Week four times en route to being named the 2011 Rookie of the Year.
DePaul finished the Old Spice Classic with a 2-1 record that included wins over Texas Tech and Arizona State. The Blue Demons opened the tournament with an 86-85 loss to Minnesota on Thursday.
The Blue Demons play their first game of the season at Allstate Arena on Dec. 1 against Mississippi in the BIG EAST/SEC Challenge.
