CHICAGO - DePaul soccer star Antonio Aguilar is having quite a year.
On Sunday, the junior midfielder was named to the 2011 NSCAA/Continental Tire All-Great Lakes Region Second Team.
He became only the second Blue Demon in the history of the DePaul men's soccer program that dates back to 1982 to be honored as a second-team, All-Region selection. In 2009, Steffen Vroom was chosen to the All-Great Lakes Region Second Team.
In three other seasons, DePaul soccer players Patrick Vyncke (2003), Brian Visser (2007) and Vroom (2008) made the All-Region third team.
Aguilar was named All-BIG EAST Conference First Team last month after tying David Selvaggi for the team lead in goals with seven and leading the Blue Demons in assists (four), points (18), shots (54) and shots on goal (30).
The former Mt. Carmel standout also tied Selvaggi for the team lead in game-winning goals with two.
Aguilar was a big reason why the Blue Demons advanced to the BIG EAST Championship tournament for the sixth year in a row.
As a freshman, Aguilar was selected to the All-BIG EAST Rookie Team. A year later, the team's top offensive threat was chosen to the All-BIG EAST Conference Second Team.
