Last Chance Weekend

CHICAGO- The DePaul men's and women's track and field teams split up the squad for this "Last Chance" weekend. Tonight, four 5,000m runners will be competing at the Dr. Keeler Invite at North Central College. Then on Friday, half of the team will be competing at the Louisville Cardinal Invite and the other half of the team will finish this weekend's competition on Saturday at the Chicago Penultimate, hosted by University of Chicago.
2011 BIG EAST Outdoor Conference Championships
At the BIG EAST Championships, Melissa Fraser finished in first place with a toss of in the javelin and finished in second in the hammer throw. Tim Nedow won the shot put with a toss of 17.75m and Mary Cate Quiett finished in third in the 800m run.
2011 Stan Lyons Invitational
At the Stan Lyons Invitational, Tim Nedow and Melissa Fraser led the Blue Demons. Fraser finished in first, in the hammer throw with a toss of 55.73m and in the javelin with a throw of 46.38m. Nedow finished in first in the shot put with a distance of 18.33m and in the discus with a throw of 53.43m.
2011 ISU Duals Meet
At the ISU Duals Meet, six student athletes finished in first place. Toni Salvatore won the 1500m, Mary Cate Quiett won the 800m run, Alanna Kovacs won the Javelin, Tim Nedow won the Discus, Tonderai Tomu won the 400m dash and Matthew Graham won the 3,000m Steeplechase.
2011 DePaul Division I Invitational
At the DePaul Division I Invitational, Alanna Kovacs smashed the old DePaul record with a nation-leading distance of 54.88m, in the javelin. Tim Nedow collected two first place finishes in the discus and the shot put.
2011 Chicagoland Championships
At the Chicagoland Championships, Kelly Pickering ran a career-best time of 4:46.55 to finish fifth in the 1500m and Ian Snaches finished in sixth in the 800m with a time of 1:56.89.
2011 Sun Angel Track Classic
At the Sun Angel Track Classic, Melissa Fraser broke the school record and finished in first place with a throw of 56.82m, in the hammer throw. Tim Nedow also finished in first place in the Discus with a throw of 53.47m. Toni Salvatore ran a great 1500m run and finished in first with a time of 4:33.18.
2011 Mike Poehlein Invitational
At the Mike Poehlein Invitational, Lindsey Holden placed fifth in the 100m dash and third in the 200m dash. Alanna Kovacs placed third in the discus. On the men's side, Luke Rygh competed in the 300m steeplechase and finished in fifth with at time of 10:12.88.
2011 Raleigh Relays
At the Raleigh Relays, Melissa Fraser threw a distance of 49.57m in the javelin to take first, for the second week in a row, and in the hammer throw Fraser threw a distance of 55.60m, a new school record to finish in third. On the men's side, Tim Nedow finished in first in the shot put for the second week in a row with a toss of 18.14m.
2011 49er Classic
At the 49er Classic, Mary Cate Quiett finished in first in the 800m run with a time of 2:08.98. In the women's Javelin throw, Melissa Fraser took first with a distance of 49.36m and Alanna Kovacs came in second with a distance of 43.46m. On the men's side, Edin Pasalic ran a personal best time of 48.39 in the 400m dash. Tim Nedow finished in first and broke the school record in the discus with a throw of 55.46m.
2011 NCAA Indoor Championships
Tim Nedow represented DePaul University at the 2011 NCAA Indoor Championships. Nedow's trip to the Championships allowed him to qualify as a Honorable Mention to the All-American Team.
2011 Alex Wilson Invitational
At the Alex Wilson Invitational, four student-athletes represented the Blue Demons. Mary Cate Quiett ran a season-best time of 2:09.30 in the 800m. Tim Nedow and Ryan Asta both competed in the shot put. Asta threw a season-best of 17.48m and Nedow threw a distance of 18.06m. Matthew Graham finished the 3,000m run in a time of 8:11.26.
2011 BIG EAST Indoor Conference Championships
At the BIG EAST Conference Championships, Tim Nedow became the BIG EAST Conference Champion in the shot put with a throw of 18.17m. Tonderai Tomu and Matthew Graham finished in third place in each of their events. On the women's side, Lindsey Holden set a new DePaul record in the 400m dash with a time of 55.83. Mary Cate Quiett ran a season-best time of 2:10.22 in the 800m run to take fourth place.
2011 ISU Classic
At the ISU Classic, two DePaul Student Athletes set DePaul Records. Lindsey Holden set a DePaul Record in the 400m dash when she finished in 10th with a time of 56.09. Chris Kyles set a DePaul record in the 60m dash, when he finished in seventh with a time of 6.83.
2011 Meyo Invitational
At the Meyo Invitational, Matthew Graham came in second in the 3,000m with a time of 8:09.75. Graham's time is a new DePaul Record. The women's 4x400 relay, Kelcie Daniels, Mary Cate Quiett, Elizabeth Jefferson and Lindsey Holden, ran a season-best time of 3:51.54.
2011 Division I Illinois Intercollegiate
At the Division I Illinois Intercollegiate, for the fifth straight meet Tim Nedow came in first and he smashed the DePaul Record with a throw of 19.18m. Chris Kyles set a DePaul Record, when he ran a time of 6.83 in the 60m Dash. Melissa Fraser threw a career-best in the weight throw with a distance of 16.99.
2011 Notre Dame Invitational
At the Notre Dame Invitational, Lindsey Holden and Tonderai Tomu each ran BIG EAST Championship qualifying times in the 200m dash. Matthew Graham returned to competition and won his second 3,000m run of the season and Tim Nedow threw a distance of 17.58m to finish in first for the fourth straight meet.
2011 Badger Track Classic
At the Badger Track Classic, Toni Salvatore represented the Blue Demons in the 1,000m and finished in first with a time of 2:59.87. Tim Nedow walked away with his third straight victory in the shot put with a distance of 17.93m. Kelcie Daniels ran a season-best time of 1:36.99 to win the 600m run.
2011 Purdue Invitational
At the Purdue Invitational, Tim Nedow continued to perform well, and won the shot put with a distance of 17.30m. On the women's side Toni Salvatore represented the Blue Demons in the mile and finished in first place.
2011 Blue and Gold Meet
At the Blue and Gold Meet two women-athletes registered BIG EAST qualifying marks while seven members of the men's team qualified in nine events. Tim Nedow and Chris Kyles set school records in the shot put and 60m dash.
New Leadership
Coach Dave Dopek takes over head coaching responsibilities for the 2010-11 season. Coach Dopek is entering his 16th season as part of the track and field staff. Dopek became the school's first individual or team to win an NCAA Championship when he captured the 200-meter title at the 1995 NCAA Indoor Championship.
