Blue Demons Roll in France Opener

SABLE SUR SARTHE, France - DePaul opened its French schedule in impressive fashion with a 118-77 win over Charenton on Saturday night. Cleveland Melvin - the 2011 BIG EAST Rookie of the Year - led seven players in double-figures with 25 points.
The Blue Demons led 23-10 after the first quarter and increased the margin to 28 points with a 55-27 lead at halftime. For the game, DePaul shot an impressive .635 from the field that included an 8-for-19 (.421) effort from three-point range. The Blue Demons were also 18-of-23 (.782) from the free throw line and combined for 25 assists and seven blocked shots.
Melvin finished the game with 25 points (11-15 FG), eight rebounds, four steals and two blocked shots. He was followed by fellow sophomores-to-be Brandon Young and Moses Morgan. Young nearly put together a double-double with 16 points (7-12 FG) and nine assists while Morgan totaled 15 points (5-5 FT) and five boards.
Jeremiah Kelly drained four three-pointers en route to 14 points to go along with nine assists, five rebounds and three steals. Jamee Crockett (5-7 FG) and Tony Freeland each scored 11 points and Krys Faber added 10 (5-6 FG). Faber followed Melvin with seven rebounds while Derrell Robertson Jr. blocked three shots to go along with six points and three rebounds. Fellow rookie Montray Clemons also scored seven points and pulled down three offensive rebounds.
The Blue Demons are in the midst of a 10-day trip to France to walk in the footsteps of St. Vincent de Paul while playing a four-game schedule. DePaul's second game of the trip takes place Wednesday, Aug. 17 in Toulouges, France before completing the four-game schedule with action on Aug. 19 in Golfe-Juan, France and Aug. 20 in Monaco.
