CHICAGO - Coming off of back-to-back sweeps of Loyola and Montana State last weekend, the DePaul volleyball team looks to continue its success in the Cleveland State Tournament beginning on Friday. DePaul (3-4) is scheduled to face host CSU on Friday at 6 p.m., before taking on Duquesne and IPFW on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m., respectively.
The Friday night matchup against Cleveland State (5-3) is scheduled to air on the Horizon League's internet broadcast (here). The Vikings are coming off a Tuesday night road loss to Kent State but went 2-1 over the weekend at the Michigan State Tournament that included wins over Toledo and fellow BIG EAST member St. John's. Although the schools have not faced off since 2000, since 1982 DePaul holds a 6-3 advantage in the all-time series including a current three-match winning streak.
Saturday first brings a morning contest against Duquesne, a squad who also enters the tournament sporting a 5-3 record. The Dukes most recently defeated Robert Morris on the road in four sets on Tuesday and played to a 1-2 showing at the Community Bankers Classic in Stockton, Calif., the previous weekend.
In the nightcap on Saturday, the Blue Demons are scheduled to match up against Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne. The Mastodons enter the tournament boasting an even 3-3 record. IPFW's most recent victory came in straight sets over Wyoming, a team that DePaul had fallen to earlier in the season.
Following the CSU Tournament, DePaul will return home for the DePaul Invitational from Sept. 16-17 in the McGrath-Phillips Arena where the Blue Demons welcome Valparaiso, San Diego State, and Kansas.
