Women's Tennis Hits the Road

CHICAGO - Armed with its new ranking of No. 71 in the Campbell's/ITA Ranking, the DePaul women's tennis team hits the road for duals at Western Michigan on Friday and at Indiana on Sunday. Live stats are available for both duals this weekend.
DePaul enters the weekend on a seven-match winning streak and boast a 3-0 road record. In the early portion of the season, the Blue Demons are 2-1 against ranked teams with victories over No. 36 SMU and No. 37 NC State. DePaul's lone loss of the season came at the hands of then-No. 15 Vanderbilt on Jan. 20.
With the Blue Demons playing well, Rebeca Mitrea and Jasmin Kling have both been named the BIG EAST Conference's Women's Tennis Player of the Week. Mitrea was the first to earn Player of the Week honor on Feb. 7 while Kling is the league's reining weekly honoree.
Kling earned DePaul's back-to-back award after going 4-0 last week with two wins on each the doubles and singles court. The Blue Demons freshman recorded her first win over a ranked opponent when she defeated No. 40 Joelle Kissell from NC State. With a ranked win under her belt, Kling entered the Campbell's/ITA singles rankings this week at No. 105. She boasts a 6-4 singles record while she is 6-2 in duals and 4-1 in the No. 1 singles position.
The Blue Demons have dominated singles play and own a combined 83-50 singles record. Patricia Fargas leads DePaul with a 17-8 mark, while Mitrea (15), Kelsey Lawson (14), Carolin Neumann (13) and Gia McKnight (12) have all reached double-digit win totals.
Heading to Kalamazoo on Friday, the Blue Demons tangle with Western Michigan at 6 p.m. The Broncos (5-3) have won their last two matches at the West Hills Athletic Club. WMU is paced by Nini Sujashvili 9-11 record while she is 5-3 in the top singles spot.
Indiana (7-1) has won its last seven matches and hosts Tennessee on Feb. 17. The Hoosiers lone loss came at the hands of then-No. 3 Duke to start the season. Indiana is led by Katie Klyczek's 18-2 singles mark.
Following this weekend the Blue Demons return to Big Ten country and travel to No. 64 Ohio State for duals with the Buckeyes and No. 30 Arkansas on Feb. 24 and 25, respectivley.
