Women's Tennis Heads to Wisconsin

CHICAGO - The DePaul women's tennis team puts its five-match winning streak on the line this weekend when it travels to Madison, Wisconsin for duals with Wisconsin and No. 37 N.C. State at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium. The Blue Demons and Badgers tangle on Friday at 4 p.m. while they play the Wolfpack on a neutral court on Saturday at 11 a.m.
DePaul (5-1) started is season with a tough 6-1 neutral-court loss to then-No.15 Vanderbilt, but has rebounded and won its last five matches including a decisive 6-1 victory over No. 36 SMU last week. DePaul has posted a 35-7 record in its six matches this season.
Getting strong singles play on all courts, DePaul has combined for an impressive 74-47 mark in singles action. Led by Rebeca Mitrea, the reining BIG EAST Women's Tennis Player of the Week, the Blue Demon freshman has won her last 10 matches and boasts a 15-2 singles record. Fellow classmate, Patricia Fargas has also hit the 15-win mark and is 5-1 in dual action. Fargas has won her last five matches and is 2-3 against ranked opponents.
On the season, Kelsey Lawson (12-8), Gia McKnight (11-9) and Carolin Neumann (11-9) have also reached double-digit win totals and each enters the weekend on a five-match winning streak.
Wisconsin is 4-0 heading into the weekend and has tallied wins over Milwaukee, Green Bay, Eastern Michigan and UIC. The Badgers have dropped just three total matches this season and are a perfect 12-0 in doubles.
The Wolfpack (3-2) are ranked No. 37 in the latest Campbell's/ITA Collegiate Tennis Poll and are coming off a 6-1 loss to No. 40 VCU on Feb. 4. NC State is paced by No. 40 Joelle Kissell, who has posted a 4-1 record on the young season.
Following DePaul's weekend in Wisconsin, the Blue Demons stay on the road for duals at Western Michigan (Feb. 17) and at Indiana (Feb. 19).
