MILWAUKEE, Wis. - Following a Wednesday afternoon draw with Drake, the DePaul men's soccer team hits the road to take on No. 14/10 Marquette on Saturday night in the BIG EAST Conference opener. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. CT at Valley Fields.
DePaul, now 2-4-1 on the season, is in for a tough test at Marquette as the Golden Eagles have compiled a 7-0-0 record to start the 2012 season. The seven-game winning streak for MU is the second-longest in the nation and has propelled them into the national Top 25.
Marquette is led by central defender Axel Sjoberg, who was named National Player of the Week by TopDrawerSoccer.com, College Soccer News and Soccer America, while also earning BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week honors for his efforts this past weekend in wins over Michigan and Michigan State.
The Blue Demon offense, on the other hand, is led by sophomore Thiago Ganancio who has amassed three goals so far this fall.
Behind Ganancio is Preseason All-BIG EAST selection Antonio Aguilar, who picked up his second tally of the year on Wednesday against Drake. But for an own goal in that match against the Bulldogs, the Blue Demons would have come away with their third victory of the season.
All but one of DePaul's six decisions have been decided by one goal, with the lone exception coming in a 3-0 loss at SIU-Edwardsville.
Fans can follow along on with Live Audio and/or from Marquette.
