Coffey's best night as a Blue Demon was capped with a career-high 14 kills. The freshman also chipped in with four block assists and two solo blocks - also a career-best.
Saige Gallop matched Coffey's total of 14 kills to help pace the DePaul attack at the net. Gallop came one dig short of notching her second double-double of the season, finishing with nine digs.
Setter Colleen Smith had another all-around performance, dishing out 40 assists and tallying eight digs, five kills and six block assists.
As a team, the Blue Demons won the block battle, 11-9. DePaul attacked at a .189 (47-22-132) clip, marking the seventh time the Blue Demons have been held under .200 in conference play.
Villanova was led by a three-pronged attack. Colleen Hickey (15), Cara Cunningham (14) and Lauren Carpenter (12) all reached double figures in kills for the Wildcats. Cunningham also added a match-high seven block assists. Setter Allie DiBenardo added a double-double with 36 assists and 10 digs.
DePaul jumped out to a 10-7 lead to open the match behind kills from six different Blue Demons. Villanova then used a mini 3-0 spurt to tie the set up. The two teams went point-for-point until a pair of blocks involving Coffey and Smith put DePaul up 23-20. The Blue Demons would go on to win the set, 25-22, and were highlighted by six kills from Coffey in the frame.
The Wildcats responded in the second stanza, racing out to a 14-6 lead. Back-to-back kills from JaQuayla Baker and Gallop brought the margin down to six, but that was as close as the Blue Demons would get. Villanova went on to take the second set, 25-18. Smith put together a solid set, tallying 13 assists, two digs and a kill.
Coming out of the locker room, the Wildcats got off to another great start and led, 14-7. DePaul was able to bring the deficit down to four behind another dual block from Coffey and Smith at the 16-12 mark. However, Villanova would go on a 9-7 run to close out the set, 25-19. Gallop landed five kills to lead the Blue Demons.
Down 2-1 in sets, DePaul managed to begin the fourth frame on a 4-1 run. Villanova edged back into the set and tied the set up at the 10-10 mark. The Wildcats mustered a 10-2 streak off of the services of both Carpenter and Hickey to take a 20-12 lead. The teams traded the final 10 points and Villanova went on to win the stanza, 25-17. Callie Huebener and Jasmine King each added a pair of blocks and a kill in the set.
After capping off their busiest week in conference play, the Blue Demons will get a few days off before return to action Oct. 24 at Georgetown. DePaul will then travel to Creighton Oct. 26 to cap the two-match road tip.
