Blue Demons Set to Host Creighton, Georgetown

Oct. 2, 2014 CHICAGO - After splitting matches in its road trip last weekend, the DePaul volleyball team returns home for the first time in over a month as the Blue Demons (3-11) welcome Creighton and Georgetown to McGrath-Phillips Arena this weekend. DePaul will square off with Creighton on Friday, Oct. 3 at 7 p.m. and will end the two-match homestand on Saturday, Oct. 4 versus Georgetown at 7 p.m.
The match against Georgetown is set to be broadcasted on the new BIG EAST Digital Network on the FOX Sports Go app on Saturday.
DePaul recently went 1-1 on its opening weekend of the season. The Blue Demons were swept by St. John's in straight sets before flipping the script on Providence the following day. DePaul earned its third victory of the season in a three-set decision versus the Friars.
Saige Gallop led the way for the Blue Demons with 16 kills between the two matches. JaQuayla Baker and Caitlyn Coffey both reached double-figures, adding 15 kills each.
Colleen Smith continued to spread the attack, notching 40 assists through nine different teammates on the weekend.
As a team, DePaul hit a season-best .362 (51-13-105) in its 3-0 win over Providence. That mark is the second-best performance by any team in a BIG EAST contest.
With their 10 blocks against St. John's, the Blue Demons reached the double-digit plateau for the seventh time this season.
Following the two matches at home, DePaul has a midweek matchup at Butler on Wednesday, Oct. 8 before returning to McGrath-Phillips Arena to face rival Marquette on Saturday, Oct. 11.

DePaul and Creighton have only tangled three times with the Bluejays holding a 2-1 lead in the series. Creighton took both matches last season, 3-1. The Blue Demons find a common opponent in Georgetown with the Hoyas holding a 9-5 edge all-time. Both teams have split the last four meetings.

Creighton flies into Chicago in a tie for the BIG EAST lead at 3-0 in conference play. The Bluejays have also garnered national recognition, receiving votes in the latest AVCA poll. A pair of Preseason All-BIG EAST nominees in Kelli Browning and Leah McNary have paced Creighton thus far. Browning's .397 attacking percentage (213-47-418) leads the conference, while McNary ranks in the top-10 with 184 kills. As a team, the Bluejays lead the league in assists (808) with setter Maggie Baumert shouldering the load, dishing out 614 of her own. Libero Kate Elman leads the team with 269 defensive stops.

Georgetown stumbles into Lincoln Park having lost its last seven matches, including all three of its BIG EAST contests. The Hoyas have been impressive defensively, leading the conference in digs per set (16.68). Defensive specialist MacKenzie Simpson leads the way with 242 total digs. Four different Hoyas have at least 115 kills on the year with Terese Cannon leading the attack with 156 putaways. As a team, Georgetown has had trouble putting the ball away, ranking ninth in the BIG EAST in attacking percentage with .178 (674-300-2105).
