Blue Demons Travel to Georgetown, Creighton

DePaul suffered three losses in its busiest week of the conference season. The Blue Demons fell at Xavier last Tuesday in four sets and returned to Lincoln Park for a two-match homestand against Seton Hall and Villanova. DePaul bowed to the Pirates on Friday in straight sets before losing a four-set battle to the Wildcats on Saturday.
Caitlyn Coffey paced the Blue Demons offensively, slamming down 31 kills in the three matches, including a career-high 14 versus Villanova. Coffey also tallied 12 rejections with two solo blocks during the three-match span.
Colleen Smith was steady all week and averaged 8.8 assists per set. Smith came three kills shy of a triple-double at Xavier, totaling 42 assists, 14 digs and seven kills.
Joining Smith as the other Blue Demon to register a double-double was Saige Gallop. The junior transfer posted 12 kills and 10 digs to notch her first double-double of her career.
As a team, DePaul won the battle at the net defensively and outblocked its opponents, 28-25.5.
Following their road trip this weekend, the Blue Demons return home for four-straight matches. DePaul will begin with matches against Xavier (Oct. 31) and Butler (Nov. 1) to open up its longest homestand of the season.

DePaul dropped a 3-1 decision to Creighton to open up the BIG EAST season at home ealier this month. JaQuayla Baker, Callie Huebener and Myah each tallied eight kills to pace the Blue Demons. Colleen Smith racked up 31 assists, four digs, three blocks and a kill. The Bluejays won the defensive battle at the net, outblocking the the Blue Demons, 14-9.
Scouting the Hoyas
Georgetown rides into the match just one spot ahead of DePaul in the conference standings and have lost 11 of its last 13 matches. Terese Cannon and Dani White lead the Hoyas with 222 and 194 kills, respectively. Setter Caitlin Brauneis has notched 598 assists, good enough for fifth in the BIG EAST. As a team, Georgetown ranks third in the conference with an average of 16.4 digs per set. MacKenzie Simpson leads the team with 335 digs.
Scouting the Bluejays
Creighton welcomes DePaul with its sights set on an outright lead in the BIG EAST. The Bluejays are currently riding a three-match winning streak heading into the crucial weekend. Kelli Browning (1st) and Lauren Smith (10th) both rank in the top-10 in the conference with attacking percentages of .376 and .282, respectively. Browning also averages 1.37 blocks per set which ranks third among BIG EAST competition. As a team, Creighton ranks first in the conference in kills per set (14.07) and assists per set (13.11).
