VILLANOVA, Pa. - It simply wasn't DePaul's day as the men's soccer team played its first BIG EAST Conference road match on Saturday.
The Blue Demons saw Villanova score four goals in the first half of a 4-0 loss that evened DePaul's BIG EAST record at 1-1-0 and dropped the overall record to 4-5-2.
Villanova (5-4-1, 1-1-0) played some inspired soccer in the first 45 minutes on the day the university formally dedicated the Higgins Soccer Complex, its new soccer facility that opened in August.
Hayden Harr opened the scoring in the seventh minute off an assist from Aaron Dennis. Seven minutes later, Dennis scored his fourth goal of the season on a header after a solid cross from Chris Bared.
In the 37th minute, Harr struck again with his second goal of the game on a shot into the lower right side. Chris Hill was credited with the assist.
Just before halftime in the 44th minute, Dennis notched is second goal of the game and fifth of the season with the assist going to Harr.
By halftime, Villanova had outshot DePaul 16-2 and came into intermission with a 6-0 advantage in shots on goal.
"We're capable of being ready at the start of a BIG EAST road game, but we weren't today," said DePaul coach Craig Blazer. "We didn't play well, and it's a team effort.
"Everyone on the team is determined to get it right and play much better next Saturday."
DePaul returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 11 with a noon BIG EAST showdown against Georgetown that is the opener of a Wish Field doubleheader. Following the men's game, the No. 15/15 DePaul women's team will take on Creighton.
