
Blue Demons Fall in Second Game at Diamond Head Classic

HONOLULU - DePaul dropped its second game in as many days at the Diamond Head Classic with a 99-78 defeat against Ohio. The Blue Demons face either Loyola Marymount or Nebraska on Thursday morning to conclude the trip to Hawaii.
Back-to-back three's by Javarez Willis pushed Ohio to an early 15-6 lead less than six minutes into the game. Willis was trouble for DePaul all morning as he knocked down seven three-pointers and totaled 31 points for the Bobcats.
DePaul (6-6) rallied and a three by Billy Garrett Jr. closed the deficit to just two at 29-27 at the six-minute mark before Ohio closed the half on a 15-3 run to take a 44-30 lead at intermission.
Ohio (4-5) grew its advantage as high as 27 points late in the second half as they outscored DePaul, 55-48, in the period.
Darrick Wood led five players in double-figures for the Blue Demons with 15 points while Garrett and Tommy Hamilton IV added 13 points each. Forrest Robinson scored a dozen points and Aaron Simpson finished with 10 as the Blue Demons combined to go just 8-for-26 (.308) from three-point range.
DePaul faces either Loyola Marymount or Nebraska on Thursday morning at 8:30 a.m. HT/12:30 p.m. CT on ESPN3. Those two teams play this evening with the loser moving to the early game on Thursday.
Postgame Notes: DePaul had at least four players in double-figures for the eighth time in 12 games this season... the 99 points allowed are the most since a 99-78 loss at Connecticut on Jan. 8, 2013... Billy Garrett Jr. made 21 straight free throws before missing at the end of the first half... Darrick Wood posted his first career game in double-figures... DePaul leads the series, 6-3... the Blue Demons are 79-35 against the current line-up of Mid-American Conference programs.
