DePaul Drops BIG EAST Game at Providence

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - An early run for Providence was enough as the Friars defeated the Blue Demons, 84-61, at the Dunkin' Donuts Center on Saturday afternoon. Brandon Young led three players in double-figures with 18 points for DePaul.
DePaul (10-16, 2-11 BIG EAST) led 4-3 early in the game on a layup by Young. Providence answered with a 16-0 run and Josh Fortune's three-pointer gave the Friars a 19-4 advantage with just over 14 minutes left in the first half.
Providence (17-9, 7-6 BIG EAST) led by as many as 24 points late in the first half and took a 49-26 advantage at intermission. DePaul closed the deficit to 14 points with just under five minutes left in the second half but could get no closer in the 84-61 final.
Sandi Marcius added 15 points and six rebounds while Billy Garrett Jr. chipped in 10 points and three boards. Young added six rebounds to his team-high totaled of 18 points.
Bryce Cotton led six Providence players in double-figures with 22 points and Kadeem Batts added 15 with eight rebounds.
Up next for the Blue Demons is a Wednesday night game at Xavier. Start time is Cincinnati is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET.
Notes: Brandon Young moved from ninth to seventh on DePaul's all-time field goal list... he passed Dallas Comegys (607 FG, 1983-87) for eighth place and Stanley Brundy (611 FG, 1985-89) for seventh place... Young has 612 career field goals... Young also passed the 500-assist plateau and finished the game with 501 career assists... Sandi Marcius reached double-figures for the fifth time this season and ninth time in his career... Providence leads the series, 24-8... the Friars swept the season series.
