CHICAGO - After scoring three goals in one game last week for the first time in his career, Jalen Harvey was rewarded by the BIG EAST Conference on Monday.
Harvey was honored as the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week after registering the hat trick in a 3-2 comeback victory over Drake last Thursday at Wish Field.
The Blue Demons trailed 2-0 in the 80th minute when Harvey began to work his magic.
His first goal came on a header off a nice cross from Hans Wustling. With 3 minutes, 26 seconds left in regulation time, Harvey struck again with an unassisted score. Finally, in the 98th minute, passes from Simon Megally and Erik Rodriguez set Harvey up for a header into the middle of the Bulldog net.
"I feel honored by this award," Harvey said. "We set goals before the season started, and this was one of mine---to win BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week. I'm happy to win this, but now I have to try and do it again.
"It was the first time this season we were down two-nil, but all of us believed we could get that first goal and come back. I just happened to be the one to score.
"Down 2-1, I began thinking that someone on our team had to get the tying goal. I was the one who did it, and made it possible for us to win it in overtime."
This was Harvey's first hat trick and first BIG EAST accolade.
"None of those goals would have been scored without my teammates setting me up," said Harvey who leads DePaul with four goals. "I'd love to share this award with everybody on the team because I couldn't have done it without them."
This was the highlight of a 1-1-0 week for DePaul coach Craig Blazer.
"Jalen is very deserving of this honor after a tremendous performance against Drake," Blazer said. "He had some good services on the first and third goal. The second goal was the result of his sheer determination.
"We want Jalen to become even more consistent every day in training and are looking forward to good results from him in our upcoming games."
DePaul (3-3-1) will travel to suburban Evanston on Wednesday for a rivalry match against Northwestern (3-1-3) that kicks off at 7 p.m. on Lakeside Field.
