CHICAGO - Playing the best game of their college careers netted BIG EAST Conference accolades on Monday for DePaul freshmen Hans Wustling and Alessandro Thomas.
Wustling was selected BIG EAST Rookie of the Week after his three assists paved the way for a 3-1 victory over Seton Hall in last Saturday's conference season opener.
Thomas was the beneficiary of two of those helpers, converting both into the first two goals of his collegiate career en route to being chosen for the BIG EAST Honor Roll.
It is the first conference award for each of them and the second time the DePaul men's soccer program has been recognized this season. Jalen Harvey was named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 22.
Thomas scored twice and Wustling had three assists within the first 30 minutes of Saturday's match at Wish Field.
Wustling is No. 3 in the BIG EAST and No. 22 in the nation in assists. Teammate and goalkeeper Mack Robinson leads the BIG EAST in saves and is No. 15 in the country.
Thomas and Wustling are part of a talented recruiting class that has also seen contributions from Caleb Pothast, Philipp Koenigstein, Marcus Griggs, Kosta Brkovic and George Moushi.
DePaul (4-4-1, 1-0-0 in the BIG EAST) welcomes North Side rival Loyola (4-3-0, 1-0-0 in the Missouri Valley) Wednesday to Wish Field for a special Field Trip Day game that begins at noon.
