Blue Demons Pull Stunner at Seton Hall

NEWARK, N.J. - Resiliency continued to be the theme as DePaul erased a late eight-point deficit in a 64-60 win over No. 24/24 Seton Hall on Thursday night. The Blue Demons trailed 55-47 with just under six minutes before closing the game on a 17-5 run to move into a tie for first place in the BIG EAST standings.
The victory over Seton Hall followed up an overtime win against St. John's on Sunday that saw the Blue Demons trail by as many 11 points before coming back and knocking off the Red Storm. DePaul also opened the BIG EAST schedule on New Year's Eve by erasing a 13-point lead against Marquette.
DePaul (11-9, 5-2 BIG EAST) opened up a 10-point advantage in the first half and led, 36-33, at halftime. The Blue Demons scored the first five points of the second half on a jumper by Rashaun Stimage and a three-pointer by Aaron Simpson forcing Seton Hall to take a time out.
Coming out of the break, Stimage hit another jumper for a 10-point advantage before the Pirates reeled off 12 straight points with Angel Delgado's three-point play making the score 45-43 in favor of the home team.
Seton Hall (13-5, 3-3 BIG EAST) continued its run and increased the advantage to eight points at 55-47 with 5:49 to go in the game.
The Blue Demons started the comeback with two free throws by Jamee Crockett before Darrick Wood nailed a three from the wing. Simpson knocked down two free throws to make the score, 55-54, with 3:33 on the clock.
Stimage scored again and Wood drove the lane for the go-ahead layup with just under two minutes left. Wood's bucket gave DePaul the lead for good Henry, Stimage and Wood all made free throws to seal the win with a 64-60 final score.
Henry led four players in double-figures with 14 points and eight rebounds while Billy Garrett Jr. added 14 points. Wood scored 11 off the bench and Stimage totaled 10 points and seven boards.
Seton Hall was led by Angel Delgado with 19 points and 19 rebounds.
The win for DePaul moves the Blue Demons into a three-way tie for first place in the BIG EAST with Georgetown and Providence. The Blue Demons continue the road trip on Saturday at Xavier. Start time with the Musketeers is scheduled for Noon ET on FOX Sports 1 and 670 The Score.
Postgame Notes: DePaul's 5-2 record is the best start in BIG EAST play... the win ends DePaul's losing streak against ranked opponents at 51 games... DePaul's last win over a ranked team was an 84-76 decision over No. 17/16 Villanova on Jan. 3, 2008 at Allstate Arena... DePaul's last road win over a ranked team was an 84-81 win at No. 16/16 Wake Forest on Dec. 13, 2005... Durrell McDonald played in his 85th game... Seton Hall leads the series, 10-5... the win was the first for DePaul at Seton Hall.
