Funeral Arrangements for Mike Norris
CHICAGO - With the passing of men's basketball alumni Mike Norris, DePaul athletics lost one of its Hall of Fame members with his passing on Saturday.
Norris lettered for the Blue Demons from 1964-67 and led the Blue Demons in scoring in 1967, averaging 17.1 points per game. His senior season, DePaul finished 17-8 with historic wins over Villanova, Marquette and Notre Dame.
As the nation braces for record snow falls, Norris will be remembered for playing in one of the more weather-impacted games. Despite the Historic 1967 Blizzard, DePaul played host to Niagara. Norris and DePaul braved more than two feet of snow en route to a 78-65 win.
Always one for the big moment, Norris scored 20 points in DePaul's 71-60 win over Xavier. The win is etched into DePaul annals because it marked the 400th career victory for legendary coach Ray Meyer.
Norris earned his undergraduate degree and his law degree at DePaul. He had practiced law since 1971 with experience in handling defense cases, primarily in the northwest suburbs.
Norris's life will be celebrated the DePaul University's Hall of Fame Memorial Mass at 2 p.m. on March 1 in the St. Louise de Marillac Chapel on the first floor of the DePaul Student Center. At that time, DePaul will honor the Hall of Fame Inductees who have passed away since the 2013 Hall of Fame Banquet including Jim Seri, Eugene Stump and Rich Bokor.
