Blue Demons Finish Road Slate at Creighton and Georgetown

CHICAGO - The DePaul volleyball team closes its four-match road slate this weekend in BIG EAST matches against Creighton and Georgetown. The Creighton match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. CT on Friday, Oct. 9, while Georgetown match is set for an afternoon start of 1 p.m. CT on Sunday, Oct. 11.
Creighton hosts DePaul on Friday as the lone unbeaten team in the BIG EAST with a 5-0 conference record. Georgetown is in a three-way tie with DePaul and Providence in the BIG EAST standings at 1-4.
Caitlyn Coffey continues to hold her position as the top student-athlete in the BIG EAST for hitting percentage at .383. Coffey has 165 kills on 313 attacks and only 45 errors. DePaul leads the BIG EAST in team hitting percentage at .250, while Georgetown is last at .185.
Colleen Smith recorded her third double-double of the year against Seton Hall last Saturday. Smith leads the Blue Demons in the category and adds one triple-double to her year.
Brittany Maxwell leads the Blue Demons with 46 kills in BIG EAST matches this year, followed by Saige Gallop with 36 kills.
DePaul is tops in the conference for service aces per set at 1.69 this year. The Blue Demons hold a slight advantage over the Hoyas (1.66) for the lead in that category.
The trio of Coffey, Maxwell and Jasmine King carry double-digit block totals through five BIG EAST matches this year. King leads the team with 1.09 blocks per set.

Last Year vs. Creighton
DePaul dropped both contests against the Bluejays in 2014. In the first meeting, three DePaul players led the team with eight kills each at home, while Smith boasted a team-high 31 assists. Smith also added three block assists to her night in the four-set defeat. With the Blue Demons hitting the road for the second meeting of 2014, Creighton won in straight sets. Gallop tallied 11 kills and seven digs. Huebener recorded 10 digs and four kills in the loss.
Last Year vs. Georgetown
In the first match between the two sides in 2014, Georgetown swept the Blue Demons in Chicago. Gallop led DePaul with nine kills. Randi Leath added eight kills of her own to the night. Georgetown used nine service aces to push ahead of the Blue Demons throughout the match. It was a closer contest for the second meeting in Washington, D.C., but the dramatic five-set match fell in favor of the Hoyas. Gallop, Huebener and Smith all notched double-doubles in the loss. The Blue Demons set season-high marks for digs, kills and assists in the match.
Scouting The Bluejays
Creighton heads into Friday's match as the lone undefeated team in BIG EAST play. The Bluejays are 11-7 on the year and have won their last six matches. Their top win of the year came against No. 10 Kentucky in straight sets on Sept. 5. Jaali Winters leads the Bluejays with a 3.73 kills per set average and 246 kills. Winters adds 1.98 digs per set and 0.48 blocks per set to her stat line. Lauren Smith is second in the BIG EAST with 1.24 blocks per set and sits behind Winters in kills per set at 2.73. In conference-only matches, Smith leads the BIG EAST with a .413 hitting percentage. Creighton is near the top of multiple statistical categories for the BIG EAST. The Bluejays are third in team assists, kills, blocks and digs.

Georgetown starts the weekend with a 7-11 overall record and a 1-4 BIG EAST record. The Hoyas recorded a win over Providence last week before dropping matches to St. John's and Creighton. Georgetown has been dangerous on the serve all year, ranking second in the BIG EAST with 1.66 aces per set. The Hoyas have three student-athletes in the top-seven for conference leaders in the category. Paige McKnight leads the way with 0.43 service aces per set. Alyssa Sinnette tops all GU student-athletes at 3.57 kills per set and 239 kills. The Hoyas are last in the BIG EAST in hitting percentage (.185) and blocks (1.28).
